Job details
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work site environment: Noisy. Work setting: Various locations. Tasks: Install sprinkler heads and mount prepared pipe in supports. Select, measure, cut, ream and thread pipe. Instruct apprentices. Install clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system and sprinkler and fire protection equipment, using hand and power tools. Service and repair sprinkler system. Test system for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment. Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush system. Install supports, valves, piping and control systems. Remove and replace worn components and reactivate system. Select type and size of pipe required. Test system for leaks using testing equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Sprinkler System Installer Red Seal Certificate. Driver's License. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Fall Arrest Protection Training Course. Security and safety: Driver's validity licence check. Criminal record check. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Tight deadlines. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Hand-eye co-ordination. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots. Hard hat. Safety glasses/goggles.
