Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Tasks: Prepare production and other reports. Supervise workers and projects. Recruit and hire workers and carry out related staffing actions. Train or arrange for training. Prepare bids. Manage own company. Estimate costs and materials. Operate CADD and other computer software systems. Use computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Co-ordinate and schedule activities. Ensure health and safety regulations are followed. Recommend personnel actions. Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other work units. Requisition or order materials, equipment and supplies. Supervise other workers. Schedule materials, tools and personnel. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Prepare tenders and quotations. Instruct apprentices. Connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment. Liaise with management, engineers and other trades. Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size. Cut openings for pipe in walls, floors and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines. Select type and size of pipe required. Weld, braze, cement, solder and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping system. Test system for leaks using testing equipment. Remove and replace worn components and reactivate system. Install supports, valves, piping and control systems. Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush system. Install clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system and sprinkler and fire protection equipment, using hand and power tools. Join pipes and piping sections using soldering and welding equipment. Installs valves, alarms and associated equipment. Test system for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment. Service and repair sprinkler system. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Gas Fitter Trade Certification. Plumber Trade Certification. Sprinkler System Installer Trade Certification. Sprinkler System Installer Red Seal Certificate. Transportation/travel information: Willing to travel. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Work under pressure. Attention to detail.
