Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Tasks: Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs. Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements. Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools. Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials. Prepare tenders and quotations. Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware. Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites. Instruct apprentices. Supervise other workers. Estimate costs and materials. Operate CADD and other computer software systems. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Handling heavy loads. Large workload. Physically demanding. Tight deadlines. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent oral communication.
