<p>Intercultural Support Worker <p>Under the direction of the Superintendent of Anti-Racism, Equity and Climate Justice, the Intercultural Support Worker will assist in transitioning newcomer students to services and resources in the school system and the community to promote settlement and foster student achievement. The worker will work as part of a team with teachers, administration, and the community. <p>Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: assist in the reception of new EAL students, their transition and integration into the school community<p> support students/families in understanding the school system and in accessing resources available to them<p> provide support to school staff in translating/interpreting information to parents and students related to assessments, report cards and other matters of importance and by providing teachers with information about students linguistic cultural backgrounds<p> refer and facilitate access to resources in the community, social services, health services and government programs<p> maintain records, assess, and monitor ongoing needs and provide continual updates to Principal or designate<p> co-facilitate and/or co-coordinate workshops or support to groups on settlement issues, cultural awareness, womens issues, parenting skills and other information related needs for parents / families and staff<p> participate in networking for resources in the wider community and liaise with outside agencies for school programs<p> perform other related duties within this classification and other related classifications not exceeding skills and capabilities as requiredQualifications: a minimum of secondary education, preferably some post-secondary education and coordinating projects or in initiatives around newcomer services.<p> experience promoting inter-cultural understanding within diverse youth/families/communities coming from war affected countries.<p> experience working to support refugees adjust to their communities and schools.<p> excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills are required.<p> values cross cultural perspectives and demonstrates ability to withhold personal bias while working across various religious/political and tribal communities is required.<p> Priority will be given to candidates speaking Ukrainian, Tigrinya, Amharic, and Spanish.<p> Dedication to anti-racism, equity, and diversity<p> Proven commitment to Truth and Reconciliation<p> Proven ability to build collaborated cultures founded on integrity and purpose<p>How to apply: <p>Click the button "Apply Online" and log into your account.
