Responsibilities
Tasks

Assist emergency response workers in the investigation of gas fires and explosions

Attend to gas escape calls

Install gas heating units and their components

Measure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipment

Service gas heating units and their components
-
Install and maintain meters and regulators and gas lines between gas unit and gas meter

Prepare tenders and quotations

Repair and service gas appliances and related equipment

Instruct apprentices
-
Advise clients regarding standards, safety features and maintenance of gas units and systems

Supervise other workers
-
Study drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the installation and materials required

Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices

Estimate costs and materials

Install and service propane and natural gas filling stations

Operate CADD and other computer software systems

Test and replace defective equipment or components
-
Convert motor vehicles or appliances to use other fuels (e.g. propane or natural gas)
