All Language and Culture program staff, including the Language Nest Worker are expected to participate in all language and cultural training and event activities. SUPPORTS NEEDEDAssists the Okanagan Language Nest team and Language Nest Elders in delivering basic oral Okanagan language through a variety of techniques such as story, song, photos, cultural activities, conversation, and participation in daily school routines. Assists the Okanagan Language Nest team with the organization of materials Assists/leads with small group instruction under the direction of the Language Nest Coordinator Supports cultural activities such as berry picking, plant identification, and introduction to safe hunting and fishing practices and techniques Assists in managing classroom expectations through positive reinforcement Acts as a positive role model for behaviour; practicing respectful child/adult/elder interactions Supervises outside play, while on fieldtrips, and assists in other supervision duties as required Manages incidents involving Language Nest participants to ensure children have a safe and secure environment Develops and maintain a good working relationship with parents Maintain a positive role model for practicing language and culture Participate in staff nsqilxcn language classes Assists with all Language and Culture events/activities Clears Language Nest and outside surroundings of debris to ensure safety Helps with kitchen prep, clean up, and delivering snacks/lunches, when cook is unavailable Cleaning which includes: vacuuming, sweeping, washing floors as needed Cleaning and sanitizing of all high touch surfaces including tables, chairs, counter tops, light switches, toys, desks, furnishings, washrooms and equipment All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties Perform other duties as required ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIESKeep a daily log of tasks to be submitted on a weekly basis Maintain equipment and tools; report any losses or damages Record and maintain inventories Attends staff meetings and professional development day training as required Communicates to team any pertinent information regarding children, parents, staff, program etc. including incident and first aid reporting Communicates with the Language Nest Coordinator regarding child incidents Participate in community events as requested Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and proceduresWHO ARE WE LOOKING FOREducationGrade 12 diploma Certified Education Assistant considered an asset Current First Aid/CPR certificate Valid BC Driver?s license, Class 5 and reliable vehicle nsqilxcen language (considered an asset) Equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredExperienceFluency in the Oka
