The department is responsible for policy development, planning, design, delivery, construction, and management of services and infrastructure on and under Vancouver?s streets. Engineering Services also has several service groups that play integrative roles across the department, including project delivery, operations safety and support, and engineering strategy and standards.Engineering?s utilities provide Vancouver with water for drinking and fire protection, safe removal of wastewater (sewage) for treatment, management and conveyance of rainwater to clean it and prevent flooding, efficient collection and diversion of solid waste, and a low-carbon energy supply to the Southeast False Creek neighbourhood.Engineering plans, designs and manages Vancouver?s network and public spaces through street and transportation planning and design, construction and maintenance, parking, street cleaning, and the regulation of activities on streets, such as street furniture, shared bikes and scooters, and special events and filming.In addition to the ongoing operations and management of infrastructure, Engineering Services is focused on implementing the City?s strategies, including the Vancouver Plan, the Climate Emergency Action Plan and the Vancouver Economic Action Strategy, Transportation 2040, Rain City Strategy, the Green Infrastructure Implementation Plan and the Zero Waste 2040 Plan. These all provide blueprints for moving forward, building upon past successes and rising to meet new and emerging challenges, including climate change, a growing and aging population, limited road space, and high housing costs.Engineering Services is divided into 7s divisions, each division has between 4 - 6 branches.Divisions and branch breakdown: Projects: Planning and delivering complex integrated capital projects and managing development-related work for the department. Project Delivery Development and Major Projects Integrated Projects Land Survey *This branch doesn?t typically hire EITs Public Space and Street Use: Collaborating with City departments and key stakeholders to envision, facilitate and create new public spaces or allocation of existing street space. Street Activities Street Use Management Parking Management Parking Operations and Enforcement Film & Special Events *This branch doesn?t typically hire EITsTransportation: Developing, monitoring, and managing the City?s transportation network.
