Policy advisor, Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ Association The Ontario Fruit & Vegetable Growers’ Association (OFVGA) is seeking an energetic  individual to join our growing policy team as a full-time Policy Advisor. Our ideal candidate  is a self starter with a passion for supporting farmers by contributing to the organization’s advocacy on key issues impacting Ontario’s fruit and vegetable sector.  The candidate will be a key member of our dedicated and cohesive staff team, and work closely and collaboratively with an engaged board of directors.  If you are passionate about developing policy recommendations and being part of a dynamic team that regularly interacts with growers, industry associations, government officials and agencies, international governments, community groups and other not-for-profits, you are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities and accountabilitiesPolicyWork with the OFVGA board and staff to develop policy on issues of importance to fruit and vegetable growers in OntarioSupport OFVGA responses to municipal, provincial and federal policy and regulatory consultationsConduct analysis and research in support of OFVGA’s policy prioritiesEstablish and maintain strong reputation for quality work, critical thinking and decision makingDemonstrate understanding of political and legislative processes with respect to policy at various levels of government  LiaisonWork closely with OFVGA’s members, provincial commodity partners and other agricultural stakeholders on issues of common interest to support OFVGA policy workDevelop and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external partners, including government, as neededRepresent the organization at industry events provincially and nationally as well as on committees as needed QualificationsCore competencies Self-initiative and ability to work independently as well as part of a cohesive teamStrong written and verbal communication skills Strong project management skills to coordinate and prioritize concurrent projectsAbility to independently conduct analysis and research Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlinesAbility to effectively work with people at varying levels including board and senior managementStrategic thinking, including the ability to quickly identify and understand issues and opportunitiesStrong presentation and interpersonal skillsEffective time management skills Technical skills Understanding of policy development and legislative processes of various levels of government; knowledge of fruit and vegetable industry in Ontario/Canada and its key issues considered an assetProficient in Microsoft Office suite Education and experienceA degree in agriculture, political science, or a related fieldKnowledge of agricultural policies and regulations is an assetExperience in the Canadian agriculture, horticulture or relevant industry would be considered an asset Compensation and benefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experience; benefit program, matching RRSP contributions and vacation allocationBased at the OFVGA office in Guelph, Ontario, with work from home opportunitiesMonday to Friday, 8:30 – 4:30, with flexibility for some evenings and/or weekends as needed Working Environment:Works in an office environmentMay be required to work outside of normal business hours to attend some weekend/evening meetingsMay be required to participate in on-farm (sites with variable conditions, equipment, etc.) events, including for tours or other meetings.Some travel is required; candidate must have a valid passport and driver’s licence, and have access to a reliable motor vehicle About OFVGAAs a nationally recognized not-for-profit association,
