Work Schedule: 3 hours per week (during program hours - weekday evenings and/or Saturday mornings), effective between the months of September to June<p>Please see our Indigenous Languages and International Languages - Elementary Programs webpage for the list of on-site locations, program days and times. This casual<p>position is effective immediately and is ongoing. <p>MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: <p><p> Support students during classroom activities through a variety of instructional strategies that best meet students? needs<p> Promote positive attitudes and encourage enthusiasm for language learning<p> Provide each student with appropriate and positive feedback that builds confidence and strength<p> Develop and maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment<p> Communicate<p> with the classroom instructor about students? progress and concerns<p> (the instructor will follow up with parents/guardians and site<p> administrators)<p> Ensure the safety of students both inside and outside the classroom for the duration of the program<p> Establish safe dismissal procedures in consultation with the classroom instructor<p> Assist students, volunteers, and instructors to restore the room to its original state at the end of the class<p> Ensure that students do not touch the belongings of day school students, teachers, and classrooms <p> Complete other duties as assigned<p><p>EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: <p>Candidate selection will be based on the results of an interview, experience and assets/qualifications and reference checks.<p>Preference will be given to candidates who have some of the following assets and/or experiences:<p><p> Fluency in various languages;<p> Some teaching experience (preferably language teaching);<p> Experience working with children; <p> <p> Related education (degree or diploma, etc.). <p><p>Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Statement<p>The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) believes in giving each and every applicant an equal opportunity to succeed on their own merit and we strive to hire staff that reflect and support the diverse perspectives, experiences and needs of students and communities.
