About the Limestone District School Board<p>The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) is situated on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee. Limestone schools serve more than 20,500 students in 55 schools and five alternative education centres covering a geographic area of 7,719 square kilometres across the City of Kingston, the Townships of Central Frontenac, North Frontenac, South Frontenac, Addington Highlands, Loyalist, Stone Mills, the Frontenac Islands and the Town of Greater Napanee.<p>Position Overview<p>The Student Support Counsellor will consult with school personnel and parents to provide strategies for student success. The Student Support Counsellor will provide support to socially, emotionally, and behaviourally at-risk students. They will act as part of the educational team and liaise with the community agencies, on behalf of the student, the family, and the school.<p>Qualifications & Experience<p> Understanding of the educational, social, and developmental needs of children and youth.<p> Good communication skills.<p> Ability to display initiative in problem solving.<p> Provide support to students in dealing with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Provide direct student support to individuals, small groups and in classrooms in areas such as social emotional learning, social skills, conflict resolution, bullying, early intervention with attendance concerns, anger management and well-being.<p> Participate in case conferences with community agencies, school personnel and parents to develop support plans for at-risk students.<p> Provide strategies and classroom resources to effect appropriate behavioural change.<p> Collaborate with school personnel in the development of Student Safety Plans for at-risk students. This process will involve gathering necessary data to inform problem solving, implementation and evaluation of the behavioural change program.<p> Provide support to school personnel and parents in the aftermath of a crisis and/or a traumatic event.<p> Consult with schools on the assessment of high-risk students, and suicide risk assessment.<p> To participate in professional development opportunities as well as provide professional development to Board employees and community agencies.<p> Maintain a high standard of professional development through adequate knowledge of school board programs and community resources.<p> Be knowledgeable of Board policies, regulations, and procedures.<p> Demonstrates experience and commitment to EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion).<p> Community College Diploma/Degree or University Degree in a social science discipline such as Child and Youth Care, Behaviour Science, Bachelor of Behaviour Psychology, Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent combination of university degree and related work experience<p> Hold a valid Ontario Drivers License and have access to a reliable vehicle.How to Apply<p>Interested applicants are asked to submit an application package that includes a cover letter and resume outlining how your qualifications, skills, and experience relate to the position, as well as proof of qualifications.
