About UsTorngat Wildlife Plants and Fisheries Secretariat is an organization dedicated to supporting the Torngat Wildlife and Plants Co-management Board, and the Torngat Joint Fisheries Board with implementing chapters 12 and 13 of the Labrador Inuit Land Claim Agreement.Overview of the RoleReporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Policy Analyst is responsible for bringing together science, policy, traditional knowledge, economics, and all pertaining factors to develop deeper and richer understanding of polices that shape and influence the recommendations on the management of Wildlife, Plants and Fisheries as identified in the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement (LILCA), particularly chapters 12 & 13. You will spend your time managing various research projects, analyzing data, identifying policy recommendations, and engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, you will oversee a team of policy analysts and researchers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the effective execution of departmental goals and objectives.As the Senior Policy Analyst, you possess a strong background in research, environmental policy development, and resource conservation and co-management. You have strong analytical abilities to interpret complex data and information, excellent communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders, and the ability to think critically and creatively to develop innovative policy solutions. You utilize these skills to provide expert advice, shape policy recommendations, advocate for the interests of the environment and community, and effectively manage and supervise the team to ensure the successful implementation of departmental initiatives.Responsibilities Research, Reporting and Stakeholder Management Review and edit analytical reports and prepare presentations for boards.Analyze legislative and regulatory developments and identify matters of interest to the Torngat Boards, Secretariat staff and other stakeholders.Liaise with federal, provincial, territorial and first nation governments to identify potential resource conservation concerns for Torngat stakeholders.Consult with counterparts across the country and internationally to identify, understand and report on emergent issues of concern to Torngat stakeholders.Participate in research studies of issues that may affect resource conservation within LISA.Represent the Secretariat when required in research initiatives at the national, provincial and local level.Policy Development In consultation with the Executive Director and the Boards of Directors, develop and write policies and position papers on resource conservation issues.Represent the Secretariat on policy development initiatives involving governments and other stakeholders.Assist in the development and/or presentation of Board responses to policy initiatives that may affect the Boards.Develop and participate in workshops for stakeholders and members to gain input to and/or communicate the outcome of policy development initiatives.Prepare policy papers and report on policy research for consideration of the Boards of Directors and/or delivery to government, or other stakeholders.Write policy-related articles for newsletters and similar communications vehicles of affiliated organizations.Department Operational Support and Personnel Management Assist with the annual work plan of the secretariat as per the direction of the Executive Director and from the Boards.Assist with reporting requirements of the funding parties.Manage and supervise research by other analysts.Evaluate staff performance and develop goals, objectives, and training requirements for individual staff.Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.Ideal CandidateCompletion of a master's degree in a related discipline such as natural sciences, social sciences, etc.3+ years of experience in a similar role.Demonstrated experience in policy development, preferably in a resource c
