*POSITION SUMMARY*
Kwantlen First Nation (?KFN?) is an Indigenous community based in Fort Langley, BC. With just over 400 members and the Nation experiencing significant growth in its programs and projects, there is need to expand the capacity of the Finance department in addition to working towards a succession plan. Reporting to the Executive Management Officer and working closely with all employees, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions and for maintaining personnel and administrative services for KFN. While working at KFN?s offices located in Fort Langley, the Accounting Clerk must perform the work in a timely and accurate manner according to KFN?s financial policies and procedures.
*JOB DUTIES*
* Post transactions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and journal entries using Xyntax software.
* Enter payroll for salaried and hourly staff, benefits and pension plans while maintaining confidentiality of payroll and staff files.
* Perform reconciliations for all bank and credit card accounts.
* Prepare disbursements by printing cheques and uploading electronic funds transfer files.
* Complete timely month-end and year-end accounting tasks to support the preparation of financial statement and budget analysis for management and Chief & Council.
* Coordinate and assist external auditors with the annual year-end audit and other audits requests.
* Ensure quality control over financial transactions through systematic reviewing of cheque requisition forms prepared by staff.
* Maintaining the DoculinX database ensuring that all supporting documents are scanned and linked to transactions in Xyntax.
* Assist managers and staff with financial information inquiries.
* Additional duties as directed by Chief & Council and/or management.
*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE*
* Experience in performing accounting functions with a solid understanding of standardized accounting principles and accounting for First Nations.
* Working knowledge of payroll functions and regulations.
* Proficient use of finance software (Xyntax experience preferred) and Excel and comfortable using technology.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with a focus on positively serving the KFN community and its members.
* Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and work independently within a team environment.
* Quick learner and ability to think critically and logically.
* Strong ethics and time management skills.
