*Cochrane & Area Humane Society Dog Training Class Instructor*
*Position Description: *
Instruct public dog training classes using positive reinforcement and science-based training techniques.
*Shift:* Occasional 6-week session commitment on evenings or weekends, typically Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings dependent on class offerings. The applicant would also need the flexibility to potentially cover shifts at very short notice.
The position hours will vary depending on public demand and the successful candidate?s availability.
*Key Responsibilities: *
Teach group dog training classes for up to 6 students in the area of basic obedience, puppy training, and any other specialty dog training including fearful, anxious and reactive dogs.
Ensure class management and the delivery of the class follows the CAHS curriculum and provide a safe, successful learning environment and experience for all the paying clients, as well as for the PACE students.
Provide support, mentorship, and constructive criticism to the Positive Approach Canine Education (PACE) students in whatever role they are playing in the classroom.
Report concerns involving all aspects of the class to management in a timely fashion to ensure a quality class is delivered.
*Qualifications:*
* PACE, CPDT-KA, IAABC, or KPA certified with experience leading public dog training classes
* Public speaking skills and proven training skill set using LIMA and Positive Reinforcement techniques
* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Knowledge of basic dog health and husbandry, behavioural conditions, body language and fear free dog handling
* Ability to successfully handle all breeds and sizes of dogs
* Reliable, trustworthy, able to work well in a team atmosphere and capable of working independently
* Strong organizational, productivity and time management skills o Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing o Basic office and computer skills
* Genuine concern for the welfare of animals
