Job details
Barrhead and District Social Housing Association provides safe, affordable, quality housing for the well-being and independence of residents and tenants.
We are currently hiring for a permanent part time Cook. Rotation of Saturday, Sunday, Monday, 2 days off, Thursday, Friday, 7 days off. Hours 6:30am - 5:30 pm ( 1 hour lunch break)
*Duties include*:
* Serves as the immediate supervisor of all dietary aides on shift.
* Meal planning and the preparation of food according to the Canada?s Food Guide paying attention to individual needs of the residents.
* *Follow and prepare meals according to menu*, any changes *must* be approved by Manager.
* Prepare foods from scratch in a home cooked manner to avoid expensive, precooked, fast foods containing additives.
* Provide a large variety of foods, which appeal to taste and appear appetizing to the eye.
* Serve meals in a professional manner assuring that resident has their desired portion of all available entrees.
* General organization and cleanliness of the kitchen and allied areas ? walk-in cooler, freezer, storage areas, etc. that meets or exceeds the health authorities? regulations and the Minimum Standards for Operation of Lodges.
* Order food supplies when Dietary Manager is away.
* Responsible for documentation of all communication and problems identified during the shift.
* Responsible for inventory control of all consumable and non-consumable supplies, utensils, equipment, etc. used in the kitchen.
* Participates as part of the staff team to ensure that a high standard of services is provided for the residents.
* Assure that all residents are present and accounted for at meal times. Keep an updated in/out list for residents of the Lodges and those in hospital.
* Assist residents when necessary.
* Responsible to ensure that all Dietary Shifts are covered if manager is unavailable when someone calls in sick or is absent the day you are working.
*Qualifications*:
* Degree and / or proven ability in the food service area. Alberta Recognized Food Safe Course
* Ability to organize and supervise staff
* Must be able to work 10 hour shifts
* Must enjoy working with seniors
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* First Aid
* *Must* be able to lift up to 50lbs
* *MUST Have Clean* Vulnerable Sector Check
* Barrhead and District Social Housing Association operates licensed supportive living facilities. All mandates implemented by Alberta Health are applicable and employees must adhere to them. *During outbreaks employees are required to wear masks and eye protection .*
