The Planning & Development Department is looking for an auxiliary Planner 1 to join their team. Reporting to the Manager, Planning (City Design and Planning) this position requires knowledge in a variety of areas related to long range planning, land use planning, urban design and environmental sustainability. This exciting position provides the opportunity to influence and create actionable policy in directing growth and working towards the City?s vision to be ?The Healthiest Small City in the World?. You will use your skills to advance the development and implementation of key initiatives to support the City?s climate and environment strategy. You will research environmental sustainability issues and best practices, develop and implement policy responses to emerging issues and prepare reports and recommendations to Council. You will liaise with various internal and external contacts, answer inquiries and provide information to other departments and the public. In addition, you may participate in public meetings, public engagements and provide various planning groups, committees and Council with technical and professional expertise and guidance. Performs related duties as required. You will have a University degree in Community / Regional Planning and some professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge and experience in the analytical and research techniques and methodology in municipal planning is required, along with membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia. Knowledge of environmental management, natural capital, biodiversity, community based social marketing, zero waste and circular economy, energy conservation and climate action is required along with project management, problem solving, and effective communication skills. You will be required to attend evening Council, committee and public meetings. Salary:$50.13 per hour (January 2024 rates)Pay Grade 28 Hours of Work:Auxiliary. Hours may vary.
