Just a scenic 40-minute ferry ride away from the Lower Mainland, Sechelt offers the perfect blend of quaint small-town feel with easy accessibility to the draws of the city.Nature of the PositionReporting to the Engineering Project Manager, the Engineering Technologist is responsible for technical field and office work related to a variety of municipal engineering functions.Primary responsibilities include providing project management support for Engineering and municipal projects including project budget maintenance, conducting site visits and construction inspections. Additional duties include providing technical support on engineering projects, internal project design, engineering permit processing, data collection and analysis, subdivision plans and building inspections and assisting with land development project processing.Required CompetenciesGraduation from an Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Engineering Technology, plus three years related experience preferably in a municipal setting or an equivalent combination of training and significant related experience in development engineering. Thorough knowledge of municipal engineering principles, MMCD, standards and methods, and the applicable engineering policies, procedures, standards, and bylaws. Knowledge of municipal engineering practices and application to project design and preparation of engineering plans, specifications, contract documents, construction and related material. Experience with municipal and development projects. Experience and working knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in construction of municipal infrastructure. Ability to lead assigned engineering and development files. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, reports, and various other applicable correspondence. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with a variety of internal/external contacts, including the public. Ability to collaborate, participate, and work effectively within a team. Ability to demonstrate attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.Preferred CompetenciesProficiency in Civil 3D drafting Working knowledge of land surveyingWorking ConditionsThis is a regular, full-time unionized position within the BCGEU. The wage is Grid 11, $37.48 - $41.64 per hour plus a competitive benefits package. The hours of work are 35 hours per week Monday through Friday.
