Grounds Maintenance Worker

The Red Deer Housing Authority is an organization that helps provide affordable housing and rent subsidies to over 800 households in Red Deer and the surrounding area. Our goal is to make sure everyone has a place to live and to meet the different needs of our community. We are looking for a dedicated and hands-on Maintenance Worker I to join our team!
As a Maintenance Worker, you will report to the Maintenance Manager. Your main job will involve taking care of the grounds and maintaining our facilities. This means you will help with things like keeping the lawns nice, picking up garbage, removing snow and ice, and making sure buildings are in good shape. You?ll be working at various locations in Red Deer and nearby areas, so being mobile is important.
Key Responsibilities
* *Grounds Maintenance*: You?ll take care of the lawn, trim trees, remove snow, and clean out eavestroughs as well as units when needed.
* *Repairs*: You?ll help with minor plumbing fixes and other small repairs, including checking and cleaning equipment.
* *Building Inspections*: You?ll regularly inspect buildings and maintain systems that don?t need special technicians.
* *Security*: You?ll check security cameras and reports to help keep our tenants, staff, and vendors safe.
* *Communication*: You may need to deliver notices to tenants and represent our values, such as empathetic service and accountability.
* *Other Duties*: You might be asked to help with other tasks as needed.
Education and Experience
To qualify for this position, you should have:
* Completed Grade 10 or an equivalent level of education. Experience with gardening or grounds maintenance is a plus!
* The ability to do physical work, including lifting and handling heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds).
* Strong customer service skills and a reliable work ethic. It?s important to be independent and use good judgment.
* Good communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work well alone or with a team.
* Knowledge of mechanical systems and experience using hand and power tools safely.
* Understanding of property management and tenant relations, especially the Residential Tenancy Act.
* Self motivated and able to work alone for long periods of time once trained.
* Experience with computers, including using the Yardi mobile application for maintenance tasks.
* A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver?s License and a clear criminal record check.
