Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work setting: Barbershop or hairstyling salon/studio. Tasks: Advise clients on beauty care treatments. Analyze hair and scalp condition. Book appointments. Cut and trim hair according to client's instructions or preferences. Provide custom hair and scalp treatment. Shampoo customers' hair. Shave and trim beards and mustaches. Provide other hair treatment, such as waving, straightening and tinting and also provide scalp conditioning massages. Suggest hair style compatible with client's physical features and preferences. Perform receptionist duties. Maintain and order supplies. Apprenticeship training: Pre-apprenticeship training. Level one apprenticeship training. Level two apprenticeship training. Level three apprenticeship training. Hair styling techniques: Blow drying. Hair braiding. Iron waving/curling. Permanents. Extensions. Twisting. Locking. Relaxing. Spiking. Pin curls. Roller setting. Hair colouring techniques: Bleach. Dyes/tints. Frosting. Streaking/highlights. Transportation/travel information: Public transportation is available. Personal suitability: Client focus.
