Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience. Work setting: On-site customer service. Repair. Commercial. Residential. Installation. Shop fabrication. Tasks: Determine type of glass, frames and material required. Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements . Measure, mark and cut glass. Position and secure panes in frame. Prepare tenders and quotations. Assemble and install prefabricated glass, mirrors or glass products. Install door, window and other hardware. Instruct apprentices. Prepare shop drawings. Repair glass doors and other glass structures. Supervise other workers. Transport cases of glass. Estimate costs and materials. Operate CADD and other computer software systems. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Glazier Red Seal Certificate. Glazier Trade Certification. Type of glass/materials: Float glass. Mirrors. Sealed units. Frame fabrication and installation: Curtain wall (stock length material). Entranceways. Glass cutting equipment and techniques: Cutting wheels. Self-lubricating cutters. Circular cutters. Cut glass plate manually (straight cuts). Temper glass. Installation specialization: Skylights and slope glazed installations. Curtain walls. Aluminum storefronts, barrel vaults, solariums, commercial window systems. Shower doors and tub enclosures. Display cases. Walls and other interior areas (i.e. partitions). Equipment: Carbide and diamond bits. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Handling heavy loads. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Own tools/equipment: Tools. Safety equipment/gear.
