*Overview*
The HR Officer will be responsible for developing and overseeing all HR functions at Yekooche First Nation, including recruitment, employee relations, training, policy implementation, and compliance. This role ensures a positive, productive, and legally compliant work environment that supports YFN's goals and community values.
*Duties*
* Implement, modify, and advise on HR policies and procedures to ensure organizational compliance and alignment with YFN?s values.
* Design and deliver strategies for policy awareness, training, and employee understanding.
* Manage full-cycle recruitment, including posting jobs, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and onboarding new hires.
* Conduct thorough reference checks prior to issuing offer letters.
* Draft offer letters and prepare comprehensive employment contracts.
* Establish open channels for communication, addressing employee concerns, and facilitating conflict resolution.
* Design and implement a structured performance appraisal system.
* Develop and oversee succession planning strategies to support organizational growth.
* Coordinate HR programs and manage HR information systems, ensuring accurate record-keeping and data management.
* Coordinate employee performance appraisal programs, offering support to managers and employees.
* Develop, implement, and evaluate HR and labour relations strategies that meet organizational goals and comply with applicable laws.
* Provide training on current regulations and ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and First Nation governance policies.
* Participate in community events to build connections between employees and community members.
* Track and report key HR metrics, including employee turnover, attendance, and performance.
* Resolve workplace issues and manage labour relations effectively.
* Establish wellness programs, including access to mental health resources and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).
* Follow and reinforce the progressive disciplinary process, providing training to managers and employees on consistent application.
* Establish emergency preparedness and crisis management protocols for HR-related incidents.
* Ensure all approved policies are uploaded on ADP and employee acknowledgments are obtained.
* Oversee and coordinate all systems, ensuring smooth operation and prompt resolution of any technical issues across programs, internet, and other tools.
* Any other duties or projects as required.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
* Bachelor?s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
* Post-secondary education/training or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
* Minimum 2 years of experience in the field.
*Knowledge, Skills and Abilities*:
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word)
* Experience on ADP is an asset.
* Ability to handle confidential information
* Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
* Experience in problem solving, analytical thinking, and prioritization of tasks
* Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
*Conditions of Employment:*
* Ability to obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Records check
* Ability and willingness to travel regularly to the community or as required to fulfill role responsibilities
* Must have a valid bank account and Social Insurance Number
* Must have a valid driver?s license
* Must be able to work in Canada without sponsorship
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 ? 40 per week
