<p>Transcend Caregiver Group Facilitator <p> <p>The Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is committed to learning, equity, engagement and innovation. <p> <p>Role Description <p>Transcend is a peer social and support group for transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming and gender questioning children and youth. At the same time the youth meet, parents/guardians/caregivers are able to meet together in a separate location for peer support and social interaction as well. All groups meet on a monthly basis for two hours one evening/month. Currently in development is a group specifically for younger children, for which the successful candidates would have an opportunity to support the program development. We are currently hiring facilitators for both the youth and children?s groups as well as the caregiver group, so please indicate in your application which group you are applying to facilitate if you have a preference. <p>The role of the Transcend Child, Youth and Caregiver Group Facilitator would be a contract position whereby the facilitators would be required to submit a monthly timesheet for remuneration. <p> <p>The role of the Transcend Child, Youth and Caregiver Group Facilitator will include: <p><p> <p><p><p> <p> <p> Guiding the discussions between the group members<p> <p> <p> <p> Co-facilitating the monthly meetings with one other person <p> <p> <p> <p> <p> Running activities such as arts and crafts, games, etc., (child and youth group) <p> <p> <p> <p> <p> Providing support to participants if they are in distress <p> Managing any conflicts or issues that may arise<p> Providing resources, strategies and general information to the group to assist them, utilizing the facilitator?s knowledge and experience in working with transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming and gender questioning children and youth<p> Working collaboratively to develop the children?s group, e.g., focuses, activities, level of the parent/caregiver involvement, etc<p> Collaboratively planning with the participants around topics for the group to discuss and guest speakers that they would like to invite to present to the group, and plan and organize the activities that the group will be doing<p> Meeting regularly with the facilitators of the other groups, and the HWDSB staff overseeing Transcend, to develop plans, organize activities and the guest speakers that the group is interested in, and problem-solve any issues that may arise<p> <p> <p> <p> <p><p><p><p>Qualifications <p>The Transcend Child, Youth and Caregiver Group Facilitator should possess the following skills/experience: <p><p> <p><p><p> <p> <p> Lived experience within the transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming and/or gender questioning communities <p> <p> <p> <p> <p> Education and/or experience working in the social services sector, and specifically with trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and/or gender questioning clients <p> <p> <p> <p> <p> Experience and interest in working with children and youth<p> Experience with group facilitation<p> Knowledge of trans healthcare and other services available to support trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and gender questioning youth in Hamilton and surrounding area<p> Understanding of provincial standards/legal processes & protections that can act as both barriers and/or safeguards to youth trying to navigate various systems (i.e. education, housing, healthcare, legal ID, etc.) while identifying as trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, or gender questioning<p> Understanding of intersectionality and how it may impact transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming and gender questioning children and youth, and their families<p> Understanding of Anti-Oppressive Practice and a commitment to utilize this framework in their work with clients<p> <p> <p><p><p><p>Deadline for submission is 4:00 p.m. on Friday November 1, 2024 <p>Employment Equity Statement <p>Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is committed to
