Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Hot. Noisy. Odours. Work setting: Manufacture. Tasks: Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes. Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications. Type of materials: Stainless steel. Steel, iron and heavy metals. Welding techniques: Oxy-acetylene welding (OAW). Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) (TIG). Gas metal arc welding (GMAW). Flux core arc welding (FCAW). Plasma arc welding (PAW). Submerged arc welding (SAW). Equipment and machinery experience: Arc welding machine. Brazing machine. Butt or seam resistance welding machine. Gas welding machine. Soldering machine. Spot welding machine. Area of specialization: Factory assembly. Cast iron and other metals. Fencing, balconies, stairs and railings. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Manual dexterity. Hand-eye co-ordination.
