Education: College/CEGEP. Work setting: Dental practice. Tasks: Conduct initial dental assessments. Consult with dentists on patient care. Instruct patients regarding oral hygiene. Clean and stimulate the gums to prevent gum disease. Apply fluoride treatment. Remove stains and deposits from teeth. Take, develop and mount X-rays. Diagnose type and severity of diseases. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Dental Hygienists Licensure by the appropriate provincial or territorial governing body. Membership with the Ordre des hygiénistes dentaires du Québec. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent oral communication. Interpersonal awareness.
