*Position Title: *Animal Care Technician (Permanent - Part Time)
*Reporting To: *Curator of Animal Husbandry
*Position Summary*
The Animal Husbandry team is responsible to care for a 27000ft2 interactive educational facility that includes a diverse animal collection of fish, invertebrates, reptiles, and mammals. The focus of this position is to learn and participate in the daily care of the animals to ensure they receive everything they need to thrive. This includes monitoring water quality and temperature, cleaning exhibits, participate in educational presentations, observing animal behaviour, providing enrichment activities and preparing and distributing diets each day.
*Duties and Responsibilities*
* Demonstrate commitment to the Aquatarium?s vision, mission and values.
* Demonstrate commitment to the Animal Husbandry?s Code of Conduct.
* Follow protocols for animal care including, but not limited to, diets, diet administration, behavioral conditioning, recordkeeping, cleaning, exhibit maintenance, health and safety.
* Ensure all work areas and exhibits are kept clean and organized.
* Daily animal observations.
* Participate in the collection of data and data entry.
* Participate in interactive presentations including public speaking.
* Deliver extraordinary customer service to all guests, donors and volunteers to ensure a positive experience.
* Assist in fulfilling requests for other departmental programing, guest interactions, special requests as needed and assigned.
* Assist with animal collection and acquisition activities as required.
* Able to follow direction.
* Able to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
* Participate in other duties as assigned.
*Education*
Post Secondary education related to Biology, Chemistry, Animal Care or Environmental Sciences.
*Requirements*
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to follow directions effectively.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting.
* Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suites
* This position may call for special scheduling and overtime needed, sometimes without much notice.
* Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
* Must have good hearing, vision, written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work with hand and power tools.
* Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, work at heights, climb and lift and carry 50lbs.
* Animal care experience is required.
*Certifications*
* Must possess a valid driver?s license.
* Must possess or able to obtain Aerial work platform certification
* Must possess or able to obtain Fall Protection certification.
* Must possess or able to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR C
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.20 per hour
Expected hours: 24 ? 32 per week
