Career Opportunity <p>CUPE NTB 558 - Indigenous Child and Youth Worker 12 Month - temporary to June 30, 2025 <p><p>Posted October 24, 2024<p>Job Code 65<p>External<p><p>Date of Appointment: <p>As soon as possible<p> <p>Reporting to: <p>Manager: Social Work Department, under the direction of the Superintendent of Education.<p> <p>Description: <p>The Indigenous Child and Youth Worker will support the learning, achievement, and well-being of self-identified First Nation, Inuit, and/or Métis students and students of all ages in a faith-based, Catholic school environment where the centrality of Jesus Christ permeates all aspects of school life. In collaboration with the Indigenous Education Lead, Indigenous community members, school administrators, school teams, classroom teachers, central resource teachers: behavior team, and central inter-disciplinary teams, the Indigenous Child and Youth Worker will support students using traditional and cultural approaches to teaching, learning, spirituality and universal evidence-based programs, interventions, and strategies for the purpose of prevention and early intervention. Based at Equal Opportunities schools, the Indigenous Child and Youth Worker will work with First Nation, Inuit and/or Métis students and students of all ages affected by a range of needs, which might include social/emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. Support will be provided primarily in small groups or in whole class settings, and occasionally on an individual basis. Delivery of approved programs will occur both within and outside of the classroom setting, during both instructional and non-instructional time (e.g., lunch time). This work does not involve clinical counselling. <p> <p>Details of Function: <p><p> Deliver culturally relevant and responsive programming that is supported by local community members as well as HWCDSB approved programs and strategies, including but not limited to Tools for Life, Zones of Regulation, Restorative Practices, etc.; building skills in executive functioning, including behavior regulation, social/emotional regulation, and resiliency; and building peer relationships, including but not limited to Roots of Empathy, PEERS, Social Thinking; Second Step; etc.<p> Participate in the Indigenous Education Community Circle (IECC) <p> Liaise with community organizations such as the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre, De dwa da dehs nye?s Aboriginal Health Centre, Niwasa, etc. to support self-identifying Indigenous students and their families in accessing supportive academic and cultural programming;<p> Apply principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), i.e., functional behavior assessment, behavior support plan, ABA strategies, etc., where appropriate;<p> Collect data as part of the observation and monitoring of students for the purpose of assisting in the development of an intervention plan or for the revision of goals; <p> Participate, with the school team, in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the student plans, which may include the IEP, Behaviour Plan, Safety Plan and Transition Plan;<p> Collaborate with school teams to recommend intervention and behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation strategies within a classroom;<p> Communicate regularly with the classroom teacher;<p> Model strategies and provide capacity building sessions within a school environment for school staff;<p> Maintain appropriate notetaking and record keeping, including anecdotal reports and records;<p> Attend and participate in student planning meetings, including family meetings, SRT meetings, staff meetings, etc.;<p> In accordance with respective privacy legislation, collaborate with community agencies to gather information regarding services and resources applicable to student and school programming needs;<p> Provide professional development sessions on system professional activity days, (e.g., ABA, Zones of Regulation, Tools for Life, etc.);<p> Participate in training as required by
