The Engineering, Parks & Environment department requires a regular full-time Operations Maintenance Worker to work at our Shipyards and Waterfront location. In this position you will perform maintenance and custodial work for the buildings, facilities, equipment, marine structures, plazas, splash parks and public spaces at the Shipyards and Waterfront and ensure all areas are safe and presentable for public use and enjoyment. You will check, adjust and operate a variety of equipment to ensure the water quality and effective operation of the facility and inspect the inside and outside of buildings and public realm for safety and maintenance problems and perform required maintenance and repair tasks. You will also perform janitorial tasks, including cleaning washrooms, keeping grounds clear of litter and collecting litter and recyclable bins. In addition, you will assist others in event programming needs, move and position street furniture, waste receptacles, signage and barriers and respond to maintenance service calls. Performs related duties. Completion of Grade 12 and sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required along with knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in basic maintenance and repair work and the ability to operate a variety of equipment including fork lifts, street sweepers, utility vehicles and various hand and power tools. You will have working knowledge of practices and rules of safe and efficient operations of assigned equipment including pumps, valves, chlorinators and heating units and the ability to maintain records related to the work. A demonstrated ability to perform physical manual work in all types of weather is required. You will have the ability to work independently and understand and follow verbal and written instructions as well as be able to deal courteously with the public and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. A Pool Operator Level 1 Certificate is required along with a valid Class 5 BC Driver?s License. Salary:$34.86 per hour (2024 rates) Hours of Work:Any eight (8) consecutive hours, exclusive of an unpaid one-half hour meal break, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m., including weekend and evening work.
