The Paperblanks Journals Limited Vancouver office is seeking a detailed-oriented graphic artist with skills in Photoshop, InDesign and typesetting (including light proofreading work). Drawing skills, whether by hand or using Illustrator/Photoshop, are a plus but not required. As part of the Graphics team, you will work to develop high-end journal covers and stationery products. You will be joining a team with decades of experience so there is an excellent opportunity for learning and growth.
*Key Responsibilities*
· Create beautiful journal covers, beginning with simple and advancing to complex files in Photoshop
· Masking original images (we will train)
· Proofreading and typesetting ? the candidate should have a good handle on the English language and typesetting standards
· Work in or learn any program/application that is needed for the day-to-day work of the Graphics Department
*Requirements*
· Highly detail oriented
· High level of proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign)
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
· Familiarity with Wacom tablet is desirable
· Persistent and patient in tackling a project, working as a team player to collectively achieve quality and polished work
· Good communication and writing skills
· Strong understanding of the fundamental principles of design (composition, typography, contrast, balance and alignment, pacing and proportion)
· Able to work efficiently and effectively when independent, as well as in close collaboration with the team
· Comfortable providing/receiving constructive suggestions and following established company branding
· Able to easily pick up skills for revisions to production design files
· Willing to work on a hybrid model, 2 days in the office and 2 days working from home
· Office located in downtown Vancouver, near Waterfront skytrain station
· The employee must live in the Lower Mainland area
*Preferred Qualifications*
· Minimum of 5 years experience in a publishing/advertising/photography retouching studio environment.
· An excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is essential.
· We need you to bring a positive, can-do approach and a desire to build strong professional relationships with your immediate team.
· Degree or diploma in graphic design and/or communication design, Illustration (preferred but not necessary)
· Minimum of 2 years experience in typesetting
*Benefits of Working with Us*
· Full-time, permanent employment (pending completion of three-month probationary period)
· Work schedule Monday to Thursday (8:00am ? 6:00pm)
· Days off between Christmas and New Years in addition to annual vacation
· Salary: 45K-50K, depending on experience
