Job details
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work setting: Various locations. Tasks: Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Perform preventive maintenance. Receive and relay information to central dispatch. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Driver's License (Class 1 or A). Documentation knowledge: Accident or incident reports. Bill of lading. Driver logbook. Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). Type of trucking and equipment: Dump truck. Communication systems experience: Citizens band (CB) radio. Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment. Transportation/travel experience: Local. National. Provincial/territorial. Regional. Short-haul. Security and safety: Driving record check (abstract). Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel for extended periods. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Repetitive tasks. Sitting. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Personal suitability: Flexibility. Organized. Reliability. Offers mentorship, coaching and/or networking opportunities for Indigenous workers . Develops and maintains relationships with indigenous communities, indigenous-owned businesses and organizations . Provides cultural competency training and/or awareness training to all employees to create a welcoming work environment for Indigenous workers . Facilitates access to Elders who can offer support and guidance to Indigenous workers . Supports for visible minorities: Participates in a government or community program or initiative that supports members of visible minorities. Applies hiring policies that discourage discrimination against members of visible minorities (for example: anonymizing the hiring process, etc.).
