Capital Regional DistrictLocal Utility Operator Team Lead - Water & Wastewater, Pender IslandReq ID: 1066 Business Unit: Integrated Water Services Division: Wastewater Infrastructure OperationsHours of Work: 80 hours bi-weeklyPosting Date: November 5, 2024Review Date: to begin on November 19, 2024, but will remain open until filled SummaryThis position provides operational coordination, oversight and supervision for operations and maintenance related to components of wastewater treatment and collection systems; water treatment and distribution systems for service areas owned and operated by the Capital Regional District on Pender Island. This position provides guidance and direction and works directly to ensure the efficient operation, inspection and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, wastewater collection systems and water distribution systems, and machinery and related equipment.Additional InformationIt is a requirement of this position to live on or be willing to relocate to Pender Island to meet operational requirements.Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesCoordinates and assists in the operation, maintenance, servicing and repairs of all components of the water and wastewater systems on Pender Island. Coordinates and assists to prioritize work including the distribution of work orders and the administration of maintenance management data. Performs maintenance, repair and operation of Pender Island water and wastewater systems and services. Demonstrates safety leadership by providing guidance and direction to staff including coordinating, documenting, and monitoring all activities according to CRD Workplace Safety and WorkSafeBC policies and procedures. Maintains, monitors, and adjusts control systems used for water and wastewater treatment processes. Coordinates and conducts troubleshooting and repairs of all components of: the wastewater treatment and collections systems; the water treatment and distribution systems. Maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers. Schedules and coordinates internal and external contractors. Provides supervision, guidance, and direction to staff. Prepares and analyzes reports including spill reporting as required by permit regulations. Conducts tours of facilities as required. Acts as standby duty operator and takes corrective measures and organizes staff to respond to operational emergencies. Develops and delivers training to the Operations Division staff in the use of the computerized maintenance management system and the time entry software (SAP). Creates and initiates work orders in SAP. Responsible to ensure that all workers/contractors are working to CRD/Worksafe safety standards. Monitors all Pender Island wastewater and water electronic systems including the CRD SCADA system. Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD Performs other related duties as required.Key Skills & AbilitiesExcellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required. Sound working knowledge of water and wastewater systems and pumping stations. Ability to clearly interpret and follow blue prints. Sound knowledge of the principals of computerized maintenance management. Must have good supervisory and organizational skills. Training delivery development skills, WHMIS, SCADA, confined space entry and rescue. Knowledge of and ability to use various computer word processing and spreadsheet software Knowledge of, and ability to use SAP Plant Maintenance software Ability to plan, assign, review, train and supervise the work of staff. Ability to effectively troubleshoot and problem solve. Excellent conflict resolution skills, and demonstrated sound judgment and integrity.
