Our schools are teaching communities where principals, vice-principals, teachers and support staff nurture student well-being and challenge students to achieve their best.<p> <p>We are seeking creative, dynamic, committed educational leaders<p> to join the following initiative:<p> <p><p>Educational Assistant <p>50%, Term (10 month work year) <p>$27.45 to $30.59 per hour <p><p><p> <p>Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team and is responsible for the provision of support to students with exceptional needs within the school. The position involves dealing with confidential information and requires ongoing flexibility and variability. Responsibilities are varied, in collaboration with teaching and other professional staff, and include: supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with developmental disabilities; participation in pool programs, academic support, implementing special programs, support to deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises and stretches.<p>Educational Assistants may be required to modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities, and speech/language issues. Assignments may also include outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties. Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil are assets.<p>Candidate Profile:<p>The successful candidate will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school aged special needs children. Equivalent programs must be assessed by People, Culture and Leadership staff. Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is required. The successful candidate will have also completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training. Please ensure that you include copies of your diploma(s) and/or certificates that are applicable to the qualifications of an Educational Assistant.<p>Required Skills and Abilities: <p><p> DSW/CYW<p> Relevant Autism and/or Learning Disabilities experience<p> Experience working with high school-aged students identified with Learning Difficulties<p> PIC Symbols<p> Assistive Technology: Google Read and Write, Boardmaker, all applications of Microsoft, Smart Ideas<p> Must be able to work with a team within the classroom and with other Autism classroom<p> Must have experience with Autism students who are aged 14 to 21 years old<p> Must be caring, compassionate, flexible and organized<p> Willing to do filing as needed<p> Must be knowledgeable of social skills programming, vocational training and work experience for Autism students<p> Suicide Intervention<p> PIC Symbols<p> Computer skills<p> Communication aides<p> Prepared to assist in toileting<p> Prepared to do pool duties<p> BMS <p> First Aid/CPR<p> Yard duty<p><p><p>ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: General Population Intermediate - ASD - could be assigned to any - EAs move around <p>Who can apply: <p>In accordance with the Student Support Personnel's Collective Agreement, O.S.S.T.F.
