*Job Summary*
The Registered Dental Hygienist functions as member of the interdisciplinary team in the provision of community oral health care services to individuals, families, groups and communities, with a strong emphasis on prevention of oral illness and disease prevention, education and health promotion.
*Responsibilities*
* Develop, implement and evaluate community oral health services and activities by identifying needs and increasing awareness of oral health services.
* Perform oral health duties such as scaling, pit and fissures sealant, topical fluoride applications, encourage regular exams, oral health counselling, referrals and other such services as is required and qualified to perform.
* Develop and deliver oral health education and information, including promotion, early detection, prevention and maintenance, through educational programs, outreach activities, audio-visuals, presentations and oral hygiene instruction.
* Assist in planning and programming by participating on committees and by sharing information obtained through client encounters about perceived oral health needs and problems in the community.
* Maintain accurate, current client records, data and information and electronically encounter client services in accordance with the Centre?s policies, best practices and standards of good practice. Complete and submit reports as required and in accordance with the timelines and standards established by the Centre.
* Maintain complete and accurate clinical records, participate in chart reviews and discussion of problem cases, respond to client/participant inquiries, and direct participants to, or provide, appropriate treatment.
* Identify areas where the development of protocols and procedures is needed to improve community oral health services.
* Engage and provide supervision to graduates, students and/or learners as appropriate and in accordance with the Centre?s standards and commitment to learning
* Actively participate in the Centre?s quality improvement and quality assurance plans. Participate in meetings of the Centre as appropriate such as Team, Case Conference and Staff meetings.
* Maintain and develop professional competence through appropriate continuing education (i.e. peer interaction, literature review, conferences, courses or educational leave).
* Work within an anti-racism, anti-oppression, culturally sensitive, language appropriate framework
* Work as part of the interprofessional team at the centre and adhere to the Centre?s core competencies and the CHC Model of Care
* Participate in Centre-wide activities such as the annual general meeting, client-centered activities, annual events and all other special events and activities related to Hamilton Urban Core
*Experience*
* Relevant education from a recognized university in a relevant discipline or relevant education and significant related experience
* A College of Dental Hygienist of Ontario Registration (Registered Dental Hygienist)
* Three to five years oral health experience preferable in a community setting
* Experience with and sensitivity to issues impacting on clients and communities accessing the Centre
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Experience with immigrants and refugees, seniors, youth, individuals or families with low/no income, people living with mental illness and/or people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless
* Knowledge of the community health centre sector is an asset.
* Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications such as PS Suites, Abel dent and Oral Health Information Support System (OHISS) is an asset.
