Job details
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work setting: On-site customer service. Repair. Retail service and repair firm. Installation. Shop fabrication. Tasks: Determine type of glass, frames and material required. Measure, mark and cut glass. Position and secure panes in frame. Assemble and install prefabricated glass, mirrors or glass products. Install door, window and other hardware. Repair glass doors and other glass structures. Estimate costs and materials. Type of glass/materials: Acrylic plexiglass. Float glass. Mirrors. Sealed units. Frame fabrication and installation: Curtain wall (stock length material). Curtain wall (prefabricated material). Aluminum framing members. Entranceways. Glass cutting equipment and techniques: Cut glass plate free-hand (curved cuts). Edge glass plates. Installation specialization: Curtain walls. Aluminum storefronts, barrel vaults, solariums, commercial window systems. Shower doors and tub enclosures. Vehicle windows, windshields and sunroofs. Walls and other interior areas (i.e. partitions). Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Bending, crouching, kneeling.
