Demands, duties, qualifications Job Summary The Laboratory Technologist I performs medical laboratory testing in the Biochemistry Laboratory. Work includes performing routine and specialized analysis of various body fluids; maintaining the integrity of the specimens through proper identification; handling, sorting and storing of samples; reviewing all patient reports and entering data; participating in various research studies; providing clinical guidance/instruction to students; consulting and providing guidance to nursing and medical staff; and performing other related duties as required. Job Demands By applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to): Occasionally lifts and/or unload objects weighing up to 30 lbs. Regularly stands or sits for extended periods, requiring constant repetitive movement of upper extremities and walking to deliver reports/results. Visual and auditory concentration are constant and eye/hand coordination and higher than normal levels of attentiveness are required. Job Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent. Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required. Current and continuing certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a general MLT or applicable subject MLT is required. Current and continuing registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required. A satisfactory record of work performance is required. *The successful applicant must be willing to complete at the first available opportunity refresher courses at the request of the employer.- LocationClarenville, NL
