Job Posting: Posting Detail <p>Posting: C2425/164 Description: Speech Language Pathology Asst Start Date: Dec 2, 2024 End Date: <p>Posting Date: Nov 21, 2024 Closing Date: Nov 27, 2024 4:00pm<p>Position Speech Language Pathology Asst <p>Assignment Type Continuing <p>Hours 35<p>SUMMARY<p>Under the direction of the District Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides support to designated students with communication disorders. The SLPA completes a variety of tasks such as activities designed to develop pre-language and language skills, speech sounds and use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.<p>DUTIES <p> <p><p> Provides communication support to designated students identified by the SLP who have speech and/or language delays/disorders <p> Implements and follows documented treatment plans or protocols provided by the SLP; documents student progress towards meeting established objectives and reports the information to the SLP <p> Models language facilitation strategies and the use of visual materials, communication devices/systems to members of the school-based team upon request of the SLP. <p> Assists with the implementation and programming of Alternate Augmentative Communication Systems (AAC) <p> Assists in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts, records, graphs and reports as well as other clerical duties as requested by the SLP <p> Observes, monitors and documents significant health, behavioural and academic changes/progress of student(s) with communication challenges as directed by SLP <p> Collects student specific data as requested by the SLP to help inform the programming recommendations provided. <p> Assists student(s) with communication challenges during emotional outbursts using appropriate behavioural techniques and non-violent crisis intervention strategies <p> Prepares therapy materials such as visual supports, home programs, communication boards and/ or other appropriate materials <p> Troubleshoots AAC devices <p> Works with parents, educational professionals and others under the direction of the SLP <p> Compiles information and materials for meetings with parents and relevant personnel and participates in same <p> Assists with implementation and programming of AAC systems as directed by the SLP <p> Performs other assigned duties that are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description. <p><p>QUALIFICATIONS <p><p> Speech Language Pathology Assistant or Communicative Disorders Assistant certification through an accredited program. <p> One year of recent experience working with children and youth with communication disorders as well as at least 2 years of recent experience working with children and youth in a support role. <p> Communicates effectively in oral and written form. <p> Augmentative and alternative communication knowledge and experience required; familiarity with BoardMaker, knowledge and experience using iPads, Tablets and AAC apps. <p> Specialized relevant skills (e.g. Behaviour Management, Non-Violent Intervention, Basic Sign Language or Braille) <p> Level One First Aid and CPR Certificate <p> Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License <p><p>Desirable Skills <p><p> Strong organizational skills; able to effectively carry out written and oral instructions <p> Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, education assistants, specialists and parents <p> Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
