? Job Posting MUSEUM DIRECTOR Permanent Full-Time
The Museum Director will lead the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre, an institution of profound historical and cultural importance that presents the heritage and legacy of the First Nations. As the guardian of Indigenous heritage, the Director is tasked with the stewardship of the museum's collections, historical centre administrative management, the delivery of educational programming, and the curation of exhibits that narrate the story of the region?s First Nations peoples.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
? Provide leadership that aligns the museum with its mission to preserve and interpret the history and culture of the Rainy River First Nations.
? Develop and implement strategic plans, including exhibitions, programs, and community engagement initiatives that highlight Indigenous heritage.
? Manage the museum's operations, including on-site restaurant services, collection care, research, public programming, and administrative functions.
? Engage with First Nations communities to ensure that the museum serves as a centre for cultural expression and education.
? Lead efforts in resource development, including fundraising, grant applications, and building relationships with donors and sponsors.
? Represent the museum in the public realm, enhance its profile, and advocate for the importance of Indigenous heritage in national and international contexts.
? Proactively engage and interact with Rainy River First Nations community and events.
? Proactively network and gather information from other museums, post-secondaries, funding agencies and applicable government agencies.
? Prepare and manage annual budgets and provide regular reports to the manager of administration and present to Chief and Council as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
? Advanced degree in Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, or a related field, ideally with a focus on Indigenous cultures. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
? Leadership experience in a museum setting, with a strong background in Indigenous heritage and cultural preservation.
? Proven track record of strategic planning, financial management, and team leadership.
? Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in community outreach and engagement. ? Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and development of diverse revenue streams.
? Demonstrable understanding and respect for Indigenous knowledge, oral histories, and cultural practices. ? Understanding and knowledge of Rainy River First Nations history, traditions and culture considered an asset
? Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector screening.
? Valid driver?s license and satisfactory driver?s abstract.
? Adherence to Rainy River First Nations? Drug Testing Policy.
LEADERSHIP
? Serve as the primary strategic leader and operational manager for the museum.
? Uphold the museum's mission to celebrate and educate the public about First Nations heritage.
? Lead, inspire, and manage the museum staff to foster an environment of collaboration and excellence.
? Act as a supportive champion of change and alliance.
