*Job Overview*
We are looking for a dedicated Maintenance Worker to join the Saulteau First Nations (SFN) team. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring that our community's brand-new Cultural Centre and other public buildings are well-maintained and in excellent condition. Your work will contribute to the overall success and well-being of SFN members by providing regular maintenance and upkeep of our capital assets.
*Duties and Responsibilities*
*Maintenance and Operations*
* Completes minor repairs and maintenance as directed by supervisor, including septic and water.
* Implements and follows a preventative maintenance schedule to reduce the likelihood of major repairs and extend the life of the Cultural Centre and other public buildings as needed.
* Maintains and cleans the gymnasium space in the Cultural Centre and Band Hall buildings.
* During the winter months, clears snow and prevents ice build-up around public areas, entrances and walkways of the Cultural Centre and other SFN buildings as needed.
* During the spring and summer months, performs maintenance and general upkeep of the Cultural Centre and all other civic buildings including mowing lawns, trimming/removing shrubs and clearing and maintaining walkways.
* Performs regular inspections and conducts general maintenance on the interior and exterior of the Cultural Centre such as minor repairs and lighting.
* Works collaboratively with the team in order to ensure the maintenance needs of the community are met.
* Participates in weekly work planning meeting with Maintenance Team to discuss completed and upcoming tasks for the week; complete required reporting each week.
*Public Events*
* Performs set-up and take-down for outdoor events, including Pemmican Days, National Aboriginal Day, Culture Camp, Carbon Lake Lodge Camp, and other outdoor activities as required.
* Performs set-up and take-down for all indoor Events.
* Participates in all SFN sponsored community events as required.
* Other duties as assigned.
*Qualifications and Skills*
* High School Diploma
* Valid BC Driver?s License.
* Minimum 1 year of general maintenance experience with experience maintaining outdoor public spaces and building interiors and exteriors.
* Strong focus on safety and ability to follow safe work procedures is required; understanding of proper handling of dangerous materials and WHMIS. Safety training including First Aid Level 1, WHMIS, hazardous chemicals, confined space etc. is an asset.
* Ability to communicate effectively with community members and team members.
* Ability to work independently and as a team player.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work in variable environments including dusty and hot and cold conditions.
* Ability to work in confined spaces as required (e.g. sewers, tunnels, etc.) with ability to share the space with one other person for safety.
* Ability to operate and use a variety of tools and equipment; aptitude to learn and use new equipment and tools as needed.
*Work Conditions*
* Work is performed primarily during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
* Potential to be On-call to accommodate maintenance emergencies on evenings and weekends.
* Overtime and afterhours work may be required for duties relating to evening/weekend events.
