Gjoa HavenChief Administrative OfficerThe Hamlet of Gjoa Haven is seeking a community minded Chief Administrative Officer, to lead our team and guide our community?s growth and development.The Hamlet is in a period of transition and requires a CAO that can focus both on strengthening basic operations, as well as looking to the future, supporting staff development and enhancing community programs and services including in the areas of recreation and wellness, economic development, tourism and land administration.As a trusted partner to the Mayor and Council, the CAO will help to shape Gjoa Haven?s future by fostering sustainable service delivery, organizational development and community building. As an Inuit community in Nunavut, our community seeks a CAO that is committed to empowering and developing local employees to secure training and support to advance their careers in our community and one who is committed to ensuring that our programs and services are aligned with our vision for our community.The ideal candidate has a proven track record in public sector management, with expertise in policy development, organizational leadership and human resource development, and experience in rural, remote and Indigenous communities.Key Responsibilities Strategic Vision: Guided by the council?s strategic plan, you will develop and implement operational plans to achieve council?s vision for the community Team Leadership: Mentor and support our team and sustain a positive workplace culture Policy Leadership: Recommend and oversee policies that support accountability, ?scal responsibility, and innovation Governance and Operations: Supporting council with information to make strategic decisions and overseeing municipal operations to ensure effective service delivery in alignment with council?s direction. Financial Accountability: With the support of a Finance Director - the CAO has ultimate accountability to council and funders for the responsible use of municipal funds.Quali?cations Education and Experience: A degree in ?nance, business, administration or a related ?eld, and a minimum of 3 years in senior management (accountability for organizational human and ?nancial resources), preferably in a municipal setting, or with the Government of Nunavut Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor and inspire staff, and support positive performance management. Experience or training in trauma-informed management an asset Communication & Judgement: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex topics clearly to any audience, and to navigate sensitive situations and make sound judgements Cultural Relevance: Our CAO must have a proven track record of working productively in a multicultural, multilingual environment, preferably in Inuit or other Indigenous communities.Compensation We offer a competitive compensation package that includes a strong base salary in the range of $150-$170,000 per annum plus $26,345 in Nunavut Northern Allowance, plus additional bene?ts including subsidized staff housing, health, pension and more. Start Date & OrientationWe will take our time to recruit the ideal candidate. Our out-going CAO is committed to ensuring a few weeks of overlap / orientation for the new incumbent, to maintain momentum on priority initiatives that are underway and support stability of the leadership team.To ApplyPlease submit your cover letter and resume to HR@gjoahaven.ca with CAO competition in the subject line.
