Big Sky Milling, a leading supplier of pulses and other ingredients to the pet food industry, is looking for an Assistant Plant Manager to grow our team. Based in Bowden, Alberta, the Assistant Plant Manager will oversee and coordinate the daily plant operations and report to the Plant Manager. The job responsibilities and tasks detailed below serve as a framework for achieving success in this position:
? Manage the Daily Activities of Staff:
? Assign daily duties to each person.
? Identify training plan for each employee.
? Cross training of staff for vacation coverage.
? Coordinate and manage vacation requests.
? Oversee coverage arrangements for sick leave.
? Manage the In/Outbound scheduling:
? Coordinate inbound loads from producers to meet orders.
? Arrange outbound loads based upon customer purchase orders.
? Manage the Receiving, Cleaning and Grinding Operations:
? Organize storage space for incoming products.
? Oversee the cleaning schedule for products to align with shipping times, ensuring everything is ready to go.
? Supervise the grinding process of products to meet shipping deadlines.
? Manage the Daily, Weekly and Monthly Routine Maintenance Activities:
? Ensure the greasing schedule is adhered to as specified.
? Verify that daily, weekly, and monthly duties are conducted as necessary to maintain Food Safety standards.
? Create a comprehensive equipment inventory that identifies required maintenance activities to facilitate SQF certification.
? Understand Office Activities and Cover the Logistics Coordinator's Duties When Required:
? Book inbound and outbound loads in the CRM system.
? Accurately enter inbound and outbound load data into the CRM system.
? Create BOL and COA documentation for shipments.
? Comprehend and execute daily production product movements to ensure product traceability and accuracy in bin inventory.
? Review and finalize purchase settlements.
? Manage and facilitate customer communications effectively.
? Food Safety and Personnel Safety:
? Participate on the Food Safety team to achieve SQF certification by January 2025.
? Assess safety training requirements for each team member and coordinate with the Plant Manager to schedule training sessions.
? Monitor adherence to safety protocols and ensure that personnel are engaged in safe practices during their daily operations.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
· Good understanding of pulse and specialty crop processing.
· Operational experience at an agricultural processing facility.
· Good interpersonal skills with colleagues, farmers and other suppliers.
· Strong work ethic, ability to learn and a willingness to take on new responsibilities.
· Strong people-management and motivation skills.
· Safety-conscious.
· Able to work independently.
· Experience in the procurement of agricultural commodities an asset.
· Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
· Reliable, ethical and professional.
· Team player.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
