People like you!The work of positions in this class involves the safe and efficient operation, servicing and minor maintenance of heavy tandem axle truck and auxiliary equipment used in the cleaning and flushing of storm and sanitary sewers and/or hydro excavation, performs routine servicing, minor repair and maintenance tasks on equipment operated and prepares and maintains work records. The work of this class is distinguished from that of the preceding class by the greater responsibility and difficulty involved in operating heavier and more complex equipment. Incumbents of this class are allowed considerable independent judgement in adapting standard operating techniques to a variety of difficult problems. Oral and written assignments are received from a supervisor who evaluates work performance in terms of safe and efficient equipment operational services rendered. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of grade 12 and considerable related experience in the operation and servicing of applicable heavy construction and maintenance equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices and the rules of safe operation of heavy mobile sewer flushing, cleaning and hydro excavation equipment. Considerable knowledge of the City?s street layout and departmental operations and of the methods and practices used in servicing, maintaining and making minor repairs to equipment operated. Ability to operate and make minor repairs to equipment; understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, prepare and maintain work records and forms from plans and sketches; plan work in order to operate machinery effectively and safely; perform manual work involving considerable physical endurance; and assign and direct the work of one or more subordinates performing unskilled and semi skilled maintenance tasks. Skill in the operation of specified heavy mobile sewer flushing, cleaning and hydro excavation equipment and in the use of tools used in servicing, maintenance and minor repair of same. A Driver?s License for the Province of British Columbia, Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement is required.The closing date for this competition has been extended until it is filled.
