Vancouver Island Regional LibraryFinancial Operations Specialist We are looking for a Financial Operations Specialist to be part of an amazing Finance team! The Financial Operations Specialist plays a critical role within a small dynamic finance team, managing core financial operations such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, General Ledger Reconciliation, and Financial Reporting. This position also provides key support for budget development and collective bargaining initiatives, with access to highly confidential personal and organizational information. The Financial Operations Specialist ensures that financial data is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with internal policies and external regulations. Working in a multi-union environment, this role requires collaboration with various stakeholders across the organization, including People and Culture, and the Senior Leadership Group. The Financial Operations Specialist provides insightful financial analysis and recommendations to help guide decision-making, while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and ethical conduct. As the ideal candidate, you are a dynamic financial generalist with a true passion for the power that effective financial practices can have on operational excellence. Your progression in your career will have provided you with experiences and skills including the following: Processing invoices, payments, and managing accounts to ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions. Maintaining payroll records and reports, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of sensitive employee information. Ensuring all financial transactions are properly accounted for in accordance with organizational policies and accounting standards. Preparing regular financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Provides ad hoc reporting to the Senior Leadership Group, Board of Trustees and Audit and Finance Special Committee. Providing financial data analysis and projections to support labor negotiations and collective bargaining agreements. Serving as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, including ADP, Service Canada, vendors, local government contacts and other regulatory agencies. Collaborating with external partners to ensure adherence to contractual obligations and regulatory requirements. You hold a Bachelor?s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field along with 3 - 5 years? experience in a financial role, preferably in a unionized environment. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. A professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA) or working towards certification is preferred.You are required to have a valid BC Driver?s License and will be required to satisfactorily complete a Criminal Record Check (Working with Children & Vulnerable Adults).
