People like you!This is manual work of some variety entailing physical effort and agility in the performance of semi-skilled and unskilled construction and maintenance tasks at water and sewage pump stations, as well as water pressure reducing station and storage reservoirs. The work of this class is distinguished from that of Labourer 1 by the more complex and semi-skilled tasks performed. A Labourer 2 works under the supervision of a supervisor who issues detailed oral instructions on new assignments, but some independence of judgement and action is used in the more familiar phases of the work. Completed tasks are subject to inspection by a supervisor for workmanship and conformance to established procedures. The incumbent assists journeymen technicians in maintenance, construction, and repair work. Performs maintenance tasks including power washing, cleaning and ground maintenance around pump stations. Performs work related work as required. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include up to high school graduation, and experience in general construction and maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in general construction and maintenance work. Some knowledge of the functions of the division concerned and of the established procedures governing the work of the division. Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks requiring the use of some independent judgement and action in the construction and maintenance of public works and parks systems; understand and effectively carry out oral and simple written instructions and act as a lead worker. Skill in the use of a variety of tools used in general maintenance and construction work. Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions. A valid Driver?s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.This competition has been extended until December 13, 2024.
