The area is progressive in its efforts to prepare for and adapt to climate change, and in its commitment to social equity.Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Manager of the Islands Solid Waste System will be responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the Islands Solid Waste Management System including the landfill site located near Port Clements, the Transfer Stations located in Masset, Skidegate and Sandspit, the Recycling Depots in Masset and Daajing Giids, and oversee the performance of the contractors who provide collection services on Haida Gwaii.The incumbent will effectively manage operation and capital budgets, supervise staff, monitor equipment usage, ensure that all assets are effectively utilized and properly maintained, ensure that terms and conditions as set out in product steward agreements and Operational Certificates as issued by the Province of B.C. are adhered to, develop and implement department policies and procedures as required and communicate with other governments, agencies and the public as required.The ideal candidate will possess the following: A diploma from SWANA as a qualified Landfill Operator; Considerable knowledge of municipal solid waste operations including methods, practices and techniques used in the operation of landfill sites, transfer stations and recycling depots; Practical knowledge and understanding of computer software; Effective interpersonal and communication skills; Proven supervisory and team leadership skills; Minimum of 3 years experience in solid waste operations or similar operations; A valid BC Driver?s License (Class 3 preferred).Position/Type: Full-Time, ExemptSalary: $83,000-$98,000A detailed job description and additional information is available on the NCRD website at: www.ncrdbc.com/contact/employment-opportunities Please submit your resume, cover letter, two references, along with any relevant information to cao@ncrdbc.com and quote ?Manager, Islands Solid Waste System? in the subject line.Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on December 16, 2024.- LocationPrince Rupert, BC
