Our schools are teaching communities where principals, vice-principals, teachers and support staff nurture student well-being and challenge students to achieve their best.<p> <p> We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team: <p> General Manager and Senior Legal Counsel, Labour Relations<p>100% Regular<p>Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week<p>$145,941 to $171,825 per annum (Union Exempt, Level 11) <p><p> <p><p>Under the general direction of the Superintendent, Employee Services, the General Manager and Senior Legal Counsel, Labour Relations is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Labour Relations division; providing legal advice and services with respect to labour and employment law and coordinating the provision of external legal services, managing local collective bargaining; management of grievances and arbitrations; management of harassment / respectful workplace matters and employee misconduct toward student investigations; discipline and termination matters; overseeing the Annual Offense Declaration process; acting as a main liaison between the Board and Union/Federation representatives; acting as a central advisor on legal and labour relations matters, including the preparation of policies and procedures.<p> <p><p><p> <p> <p> <p> <p> Qualifications<p> <p> <p> <p><p><p><p> <p> Excellent managerial skills to direct and oversee a team of professionals in a large organization, including hiring, directing, evaluating and disciplining. Demonstrates exceptional leadership for coaching, mentoring and motivating teams;<p> <p> <p> Excellent interpersonal and superior communications skills (both oral and written) required to provide or elicit information from others, either in writing or through verbal conversations, and has the capacity for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all stakeholders, including senior staff, manager, principals, board employees, and Trustees. <p> <p> <p> Demonstrated understanding of the principles of procedural fairness as it relates to workplace investigations;<p> <p> <p> Public speaking ability for making presentations with ease, to large or small groups;<p> <p> <p> Strong research and analytical skills; <p> <p> <p> Organizational skills, including time management techniques for planning and prioritizing work demands and departmental priorities;<p> <p> <p> Committed to the principles of human rights, equity and inclusion;<p> <p> <p> Some experience working in other areas related to education law either in practice or in a school board; <p> <p> <p> In depth knowledge of labour relations practices and principles; <p> <p> <p> High degree of initiative, judgement and independent thought and decision-making in interpreting and advising on the terms of collective agreements, arbitration and court decisions, various acts and regulations, policies and procedures and proposed legislative and policy changes and in making recommendations to Trustees, senior staff, principals/managers and personnel staff. <p> <p><p><p><p>Functional and Technical Knowledge include:<p><p> <p> Experience supporting thorough knowledge of collective bargaining, labour relations and employment matters, particularly as they relate to the education sector, including all relevant legislation, regulations and procedures such the Education Act, the Labour Relations Act, the Pay Equity Act, and the Employment Standards Act;<p> <p> <p> Knowledge of grievance and arbitration process management;<p> <p> <p> Knowledge of applicable software applications including Microsoft Suite and google applications <p> <p><p><p><p>This knowledge would normally be acquired with a
