Non 24 Hour Programs</strong></p><p><strong> (Bargaining Unit Position)</strong></p><p></p><p></p><p><strong>Hours of Work: </strong>5 days per week, normally 9am to 5pm, with one evening per week and some flexibility required</p><p><strong>Starting Date: ASAP </strong></p><p><strong>Salary:</strong> <strong>As Per Collective Agreement</strong></p><p><strong>Submit Resume to: ramya.rengaraman@homesfirst.on.ca</strong></p><p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong>APPLICANTS MUST QUOTE ?NICM-24?</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>This position supports clients in their housing by assessing and supporting their needs and adhering to the mission statement and policies & procedures of Homes First Society.</p><p></p><p><strong>Job Description:</strong></p><ul><li>facilitate tenant movement from shelters to secure long term permanent housing</li><li>assist tenants in maintaining housing</li><li>work with site staff to develop outreach and needs assessment criteria</li><li>knowledge of rental legislation in Ontario and Hostels Guidelines and Procedures</li><li>knowledge of current housing and support agency providers appropriate to our tenants and residents</li><li>ability to understand and assess suitability of potential landlords and/or residences</li><li>identify current issues, determine supports necessary, refer and support clients in preparation to entry level/transitional housing, and with referring worker, support move to site</li><li>confer with front line support staff at site to transfer information from case file to staff team</li><li>use case management as a tool to support residents in meeting their goals</li><li>provide support including work readiness, basic life management skills, anger management, addiction counseling, assertive communication, setting goals, giving and receiving feedback, self-esteem, conflict resolution, problem solving and managing change</li><li>provide support to clients who are facing issues of poverty, mental health, addictions, abuse, social isolation and more.</li><li>apply knowledge of group processes and dynamics</li><li>use excellent organizational and time management skills</li><li>work independently and as part of a team</li><li>communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.</li></ul><p></p><p></p><p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>post-secondary education or equivalent.</li><li>several years? experience working with people who are homeless, under-housed and who are hard to house.</li><li>knowledge of tenant population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices and systemic reasons for homelessness.</li><li>knowledge of rental legislation in Ontario</li><li>excellent interpersonal skills.</li><li>knowledge of relevant laws, standards and guidelines.</li><li>knowledge of resources and services available in the community.</li><li>excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and organization skills.</li><li>certificates in First Aid, CPR, Crisis Prevention and Intervention an asset</li><li>Certificate of Completion of Homelessness Learning Hub?s <em>Harm Reduction for the Homelessness Sector</em> considered an asset</li><li>ability to work occasional evenings</li></ul><p></p><p>Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required.</p><p>The successful applicant must provide a criminal record check that is satisfactory to Homes First Society</p><p>Homes First Society is an equal opportunity employer</p><p></p><p><strong>Accommodation:</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Homes First is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive organization.
