We have partnered with a local accounting firm to assist in the search for a new Accounting
Technician to join their growing team! This firm has strong roots in the city of Winnipeg
supporting a number of small to medium sized business clients. This position is responsible for the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns, year-end files and financial statements according to the professional and current accounting standards.
*Duties and Responsibilities*
* Preparation of year-end files (corporate, partnership, sole proprietorship) including the following tasks:
* Completion and documentation of the file in an efficient manner;
* Preparation of the financial statements;
* Preparation of the tax return.
* Identification preparing corporate income tax and personal income tax for a diverse variance of public practice clients;
* Analytical review of the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, including the reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger;
* Reporting the monthly variance analysis from the file budget;
* Maintenance of manuals documenting accounting procedures and policies;
* Prepare financial statements, reports and records through collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information;
* Maintain financial security by researching and reconciling discrepancies; auditing and verifying documents while following internal controls;
* Accomplish tasks on time and contribute to the team by taking on special projects as needed;
* Stay current with all regulations, practices, tax laws, reporting requirements and industry trends pertaining to accounting standards and tax submission requirements;
* Execute a variety of corporate, personal, and assignments including, compliance, and
provision;
* Complete audit processes and document higher-risk areas to increase your technical and business skills in areas including revenue, financial instruments and income taxes;
* Preparation of audit working papers ? assets, liabilities, revenue and expenditures;
* Develop an open communication channel with clients;
* Stay informed and up-to-date on trends, new legislative developments and tax authority decisions to apply them in complex situations relevant to the client;
* Demonstrate professionalism through a positive attitude and by maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products;
* Determine all information required to ensure/complete accurate tax compliance products within the budget outline;
* Provide timely and high-quality services and work products based on the clients expectations.
*Skills and Qualifications*
* 2-4 years? relevant experience in tax and assurance;
* Bachelor?s degree specializing in accounting;
* CPA designation, or CPA student in PEP level;
* Excellent analytical, multi-tasking, communication, organizational, teamwork and interpersonal skills;
* Strong verbal and written communication skills in English;
* PC proficiency including MS Office, ProFile, Caseware, Keystone Template, QuickBooks, Sage, or other software;
* Ability to manage time spent against budget and work with team members to ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner;
* A commitment to learning in a tax technology environment;
* Strong organizational skills;
* Process oriented with excellent documentation skills;
* Proven business development skills;
* Ability to work within tight deadlines;
* Mature, proactive, committed and a driven team player.
