Tandem Axle Operator(Permanent Full-Time) Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. We are seeking employees with a passion for public service who share our commitment to creating a complete, inclusive and livable community.The Engineering Construction Department has an opening for a Class 3 Truck Driver (Tandem Axle Operator). This position operates and maintains heavy mobile equipment of a complex nature in accordance to competency standards, safety practices, regulations, as well as performing manual work. The successful candidate must be skilled in operating a tandem axle dump truck, working knowledge in the operation and use of backhoes, front-end loaders, and excavators would be considered an asset.This position performs the following duties: Primarily operating a Tandem Axle Dump Truck and other equipment in a variety of tasks, including the maintenance and construction of water, sewer, and drainage assets; Washing, cleaning and service repairs (add fluid, adjust brakes, replace bulbs, etc.) to equipment; Operate truck and attachments to plow snow, salt and sand streets as required; Performing daily equipment inspections and submitting inspection reports; Providing significant manual labour assistance on various tasks where required; Ongoing mentoring and training; and Performing other duties as required.The preferred candidate will possess considerable experience in the operation of various equipment as applied to general utilities construction and maintenance work; ability to operate equipment in congested conditions; knowledge and experience working around other underground utilities, like gas and electrical; knowledge of safe operation procedures and the precautions necessary to avoid accidents or machine damage; the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and, mechanical aptitude along with adequate physical stamina to perform assigned duties in all types of weather. The successful candidate must have graduated from senior secondary school, a valid Class 3 Drivers? License with air brake endorsement, and considerable knowledge of the methods and practices employed in the operation and servicing of this type of vehicle. Possession of a Class 1 license and/or possessing a BC Crane Operator - Full Scope (formerly Level A) certification would be an asset. The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials.
