Job details
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Applied horticulture/horticulture operations, general. Ornamental horticulture. Applied horticulture/horticultural business services, other. Horticultural science. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Outdoors. All weather conditions. Work setting: Rural area. Greenhouse. Nursery - horticulture. Tasks: Water and tend to plants, lawns and/or gardens. Apply fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, pesticides and other lawn care products. Apply various treatments such as pruning, spraying, repairing damaged areas and injecting with treatment solutions. Examine trees and shrubs to diagnose problems and disease. Plan and co-ordinate the growth and use of plants for landscaping, ornamental uses and other purposes. Supervise crew members. Perform routine equipment maintenance. Operate machines and equipment. Area of specialization: Plant knowledge and identification. Propagation. Horticulture. Transportation/travel information: Own vehicle. Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Ability to work independently. Attention to detail. Repetitive tasks. Physically demanding. Manual dexterity. Ability to distinguish between colours. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots. Rain gear.
