*Position Overview*
Reporting to the Training and Education Lead, the Provincial Child Care Advisor will be responsible to provide training, support, consultation, and resources to child care providers, parents, and caregivers in Indigenous-serving early learning settings and Indigenous communities across British Columbia. Advisors develop and deliver training on a wide range of Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) topics and provide information, tools and resources in ways that are culturally sensitive and rooted in Indigenous values and traditions. Advisors understand community protocols for engaging and working with Elders and knowledge keepers and are familiar with current Indigenous research protocol and curriculum development strategies. As key members of the ACCR, they contribute to the overall functioning of the Society, supporting community awareness about the importance, role and impact of quality ECD and child care programs and services.
*Key Responsibilities*
ACCRR Program Support:
* Develops and delivers training workshops and information tools that are culturally specific and relate to child care and Indigenous Early Childhood Education and Child Care (IELCC) practice, administration, and management.
* Collaborates with and maintains effective partnerships with stakeholders, including but not limited to community leaders, Elders, caregivers, community-based programs, training institutions, ECE and other professionals, regional and local Child Care Resource and Referral Programs (CCRR) throughout BC.
* Participates on provincial sectoral committees, as requested by managers.
* Plans and/or participates in regional community tables and training.
* Assists with the planning and organization of the Society?s annual provincial conference.
* Acts as a resource and support to Indigenous communities in the province wishing to plan, develop and expand community-based ECD and child care programs and services.
* Participates in and develops resources and reports related to the current and emerging practices in I/ELCC.
* Maintains accurate project records and statistics, develops an annual work plan, and prepares regular program reports.
* Contributes to the overall functioning of the Society, and overall program planning, reporting and evaluation.
*Education and Experience*
Required:
* Diploma in Early Childhood Education or Youth and Child Care or a combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
* A strong understanding of Indigenous worldviews and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and values.
* Minimum of 5 years? experience working directly with children and families in IELCC settings.
* Management and/or administrative experience.
* Extensive knowledge of child development 0-6 including either, specific knowledge of infant and toddlers and/or supporting children with diverse abilities.
* Knowledge of child care policies, licensing regulations, and sectoral development in British Columbia (BC).
* Understanding of the I/ELCC landscape in BC.
* Knowledge of relevant frameworks and documents, including the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework, the BC Early Learning Framework, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
* Experience in planning and executing a wide range of training events for early learning professionals and families including conferences and/or community events.
* Proficiency in computer applications, meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams), Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
* Must have valid driver license (BC Class 4 or 5) and satisfactory driving record.
* Criminal records check (vulnerable sector).
