Assistant Cook *Reports To* Centre Cook / Centre Director *Position Summary* The Assistant Cook supports the daily preparation and serving of nutritious meals and snacks for children in a safe, clean, and welcoming child care environment. This role assists with meal preparation, kitchen organization, food safety compliance, and maintaining high hygiene standards while supporting the dietary needs of young children. *Key Responsibilities* * Assist with preparing and serving healthy meals and snacks according to approved menus and nutrition guidelines. * Help with food preparation tasks such as washing, chopping, portioning, and storing ingredients. * Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, food preparation areas, and storage spaces. * Follow all public health, food handling, and safety regulations. * Assist with receiving, rotating, and storing food supplies and inventory. * Support accommodation of allergies, dietary restrictions, and special meal requirements. * Ensure meals are served on schedule and in appropriate portions for children. * Dispose of garbage and recycling according to health and safety procedures. * Assist with menu preparation and kitchen organization as needed. * Work cooperatively with child care staff to support a positive environment for children. *Qualifications* * Food Handler Certification (required). * Previous experience in food preparation, kitchen assistance, or institutional cooking preferred. * Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. * Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. * Strong organizational and teamwork skills. * Ability to lift kitchen supplies and stand for extended periods. * Experience working in a child care or school setting is an asset.
