Legal Administrative Coordinator As WorkplaceNL's Legal Administrative Coordinator (LAC) you will be responsible for providing specialized legal administration and coordination of work for the Legal Department.Role Responsibilities Coordinates and initiates various tasks performed of the Legal Department and is accountable for ensuring follow-up action. This position works independently and uses strong organizational and coordination skills, receiving general supervision only. Initiates applicable limitation periods on legal files in accordance with legislation and ensures that the legal impact of court-imposed deadlines are accurately recorded and monitored for filing Statements of Claim and other required court pleadings. The position ensures that service deadlines are recorded and monitored and arranges for service of court documents in accordance with court rules. Drafts and amends legal documents including pleadings, Lists of Documents and other court documents, and liaises with the courts on all matters. This position drafts garnishment directions and documentation for the Office of the High Sheriff's office and liaises with that office. The LAC drafts documentation for the Assessment Services Department in relation to registered liens, certificates and releases. Liaises with the Legal Department's file management and accounting platform provider to resolve issues, coordinate updates and provides platform training to staff. Creates and coordinates departmental files in the platform and in WorkplaceNL's file management system. Responsible for determining and recording deadlines into the platform to ensure the timely monitoring and completion of tasks. Reviews and inputs legal expenses into the platform for use in accounting for third-party recoveries. Monitors departmental files for deadlines and limitation periods to ensure matters are dealt with expeditiously by Legal Counsel. Coordinates and maintains a bring-forward system with appropriate back-up to ensure limitation periods are accurately set and preserved. Reviews claim files to gather information for investigation, managing, and disposition of third-party files and liaises with workers with potential third-party claims to coordinate document collection and production. The LAC collaborates with other departments to coordinate and ensure the timely receipt of properly executed election forms in compliance with third-party statutory requirements.Essential Skills and Qualifications Post-secondary diploma in legal administration or paralegal, and a minimum of three years' experience working as a legal administrator or coordinator in a law firm or corporate legal department. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Outlook, Access and Word). Proficiency in legal file management software. Must possess or be qualified to obtain an appointment as a Commissioner for Oaths. Excellent organizational, time management and communication abilities, demonstrated ability to anticipate and manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines. Must be able to understand and respect the principles of confidentiality and solicitor-client privilege.What does success look like in this role?
